Vive Le Cinema!
The popular return of Cinematinee at the Coffs Harbour Jetty Theatre has given theatre goers some much needed respite during these turbulent times (ahem Covid). Luckily for us, more inspiring and quality films keep rolling in.
Coming up this month are two stellar films with screenings at 2pm and 6pm. Made in Italy (Screening Thursday the 10th of Sept) is a heart-warming comedy set in glorious Tuscany, starring Liam Neeson as Robert, a charming artist who returns to Italy with his estranged son Jack (Neeson’s real life son Micheál Richardson) to sell the house they inherited from his late wife.
Renovations go badly and Robert’s comical lack of DIY experience leads him to seek help from some colourful locals, in particular, a vivacious Italian chef who restores both body and soul with delights from her local trattoria.
We’re all in this together (Screening Thursday the 24th of Sept) – the second highest grossing French film of 2019 – is a story of long-term bonds and the joy of friendship, but also of suppressed emotions, personal and professional resentments, and the many ways having children can both fracture and cement social circles.
Restaurateur Max (François Cluzet) invites his friends to his gorgeous summer house in the chic beach community of Cap Ferret. The group have traditionally reconnected there for his birthday, but since things didn’t exactly go as planned last time, they haven’t seen much of one another. It turns out Max is divorcing and his villa is up for sale, so when pals Marie (Marion Cotillard), Vincent (Benoît Magimel), now-famous actor Eric (Gilles Lellouche) and his hapless buddy-turned-assistant Antoine (Laurent Lafitte) arrive unannounced to celebrate a significant milestone, it’s not necessarily a welcome surprise.
